Colnaghi and Strauven lead the standings after Portimao

The Spanish Winter Championship visited the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao for Round 2 with both Eurocup-4 and Eurocup-3 categories again after a great debut in Jerez.

Thomas Strauven (Griffin Core by Campos) added two victories, two Pole Positions and two Fastest Laps to his tail to take Championship’s lead ahead his teammate Jan Przyrowski who took Race 2 win (third of the season) to stay just 3 points behind the leader ahead Eurocup-4 Spanish winter Championship Season Finale in Navarra.

Vivek Kanthan (Campos Racing) establishes himself as best rookie with another double podium in Portugal that put him in overall P3, 31 points behind Strauven but ahead second-year drivers as René Lammers (P4) and Nathan Tye (P5).

Special mention should be made to rookies Ean Eyckmans and local Noah Monteiro after first ever overall podiums in this class and to Gino Trappa (Drivex) after scoring his first points.

In Eurocup-3, Valerio Rinicella (MP Motorsport) entered the series ready to battle for everything. A triple podium, including one victory, two Pole Positions and two Fastest Laps put him in overall P3 with 61 points.

2024 F4 Spanish Champion Mattia Colnaghi took his second win in Eurocup-3 and with his fourth podium in just six races in this class leads the standings (97 points) with a significant advantage over Polish driver Maciej Gladysz (69 points).

On the other hand, James Egozi made history for Palou Motorsport giving them first ever win with such an exhibition in Sprint Race in Portimao while Kacper Sztuka achieved his first podium in the series.

With two of three Spanish Winter Championship rounds completed, Thomas Strauven leads the E4 Spanish Winter Championship with 98 points, followed by Jan Przyrowksi (95), Vivek Kanthan (67), René Lammers (55) and Nathan Tye (46). Talking about teams’ trophy, Griffin Core by Campos Racing is on top with 185 points to Campos Racing’s 77 and MP Motorsport’s 72.

Meanwhile Mattia Colnaghi has taken a giant leap towards the title and now leads the E3 Spanish Winter Championship with a 28-points lead (97) over Maciej Gladysz (69). Right behind is Valerio Rinicella (61) while James Egozi (57) and Andrés Cárdenas (51) round out the top five. MP Motorsport leads teams’ standings with 195 points after two rounds with Campos Racing in 91 points.

The Spanish Winter Championship will return to action with 2025 E4 Spanish Winter Championship final round in Navarra next March 7-9 while the Eurocup-3 Spanish Winter Championship will come to an end on 28-30 March at Motorland.
