The Spanish Winter Championship lands in Portimao

The Spanish Winter Championship heads into its second round at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (Portimão) this weekend.

A total of 64 drivers will gather at the Portuguese circuit, with 36 players in Eurocup-4 and 28 in Eurocup-3, ready to give their best on track.

The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve does that thing good circuit design seems to rely on: start with a hill and get rid of anything that doesn’t look like a race track. Featuring a varied and demanding set of corners the circuit rises and falls across the hilly landscape with often alarming rapidity,

Rather like Austin’s Circuit of The Americas, Portimao is a modern venue with elevation change baked into its layout. The Ricardo Pena-designed 2.9-mile lap sends drivers swooping up hill and down dale, before culminating in a plunge down to the final right-hander at Galp leading back onto the pit straight – with the double-apex, Acque Minerali-evoking Portimao corner a particular highlight.

Second-year driver Jan Przyrowski arrives to Portuguese soil with a 23-point lead over sophomore René Lammers and 3 mover over rookie Vivek Kanthan after a dominant performance in Jerez with a double win.

In Eurocup-3 the rookies have emerged as dominators after Round 1 in the Andalusian with reigning F4 Spanish Champion Mattia Colnaghi leading the way (47 points) ahead other five rookies: Maciej Gladysz, Andrés Cárdenas, James Egozi, Juan Cota and Jules Caranta.

An action-packed weekend is ahead for teams and drivers in Portimao with a busy Friday including four hours of Test sessions for each series.

Both Qualy 1 will take place on Saturday at 09:00h local for Eurocup-3 and 09:50h local for Eurocup-4 to meet the first Polesitter of the weekend.

Race 1 in Eurocup-3 will take place at 12:10h local with Eurocup-4 Race 1 coming right behind at 13:15h local. After the lunch brake the Sprint Races will come!! Eurocup-3 drivers will hit the track again at 15:20h local while Eurocup-4 will show up again at 16:15h local.

Sunday action will comprise Qualy 2 at 09:00h local for Eurocup-3 and 09:50h local for Eurocup-4 and Race 2 of both series with Eurocup-3 teams saying goodbye to this round at 12:10h local and Eurocup-4 closing the event at 13:15h local.
